Electronic Recyclers, California's largest recycler of electronic waste, announced today that Tom Shinault, an industrial facility specialist and environmental engineer for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has joined its staff as Director of Environmental Affairs.
Shinault was instrumental in providing emergency response planning for the EPA in the event of an environmental emergency and has assisted major oil companies to come into compliance with the Clean Water/Clean Air Act, and The Emergency Planning & Community Right-To-Know Act laws by establishing innovative inspection and planning strategies.
"Having Tom join our team illustrates just how committed we are to doing things right in this industry," said John S. Shegerian, ERA's President and CEO. "Tom has served as an EPA Planner and Inspector, enforcing federal environmental regulations. Who better to help us lead the charge of appropriate dismantling and recycling of electronic waste? We are extremely proud he's here, and I'm confident his presence will help take us to yet another level."
"Working with the EPA," said Shinault, "it became obvious to me in recent years that electronic waste is probably the most difficult waste-related problem we have as Americans. A number of individuals and organizations have been doing things about the problem, but in my estimation, nobody was doing it properly -- except for John Shegerian and Electronic Recyclers. I found myself working with John on some projects and it became a natural for me to step over and really help Electronic Recyclers set the standard. I'm excited to be a part of an organization that is truly blazing a trail in this new industry."
Shinault is a member of the California Hazardous Waste Association, California Water Pollution Control Association, Water Environment Federation, and the American Society for Testing and Materials.
