Nipomo Apartment Project Likely to Get Water: Complex to Be for Low-Income Residents

May 11--A 52-unit apartment complex in Nipomo will likely receive water from the community services district.

Directors voted 3 to 2 -- with Ed Eby and Judith Wirsing dissenting -- Wednesday to issue an intent-to-serve letter to the proposed Roosevelt Apartments at 750 Grande St. The project will consist of five, three-story buildings and a recreation center.

Hookup costs are expected to be about $541,500, with $344,731 of that going to help pay for a pipeline that will bring supplemental water from Santa Mara.

Project owner John Luis of Nipomo said every apartment will be geared toward low-income residents. If the complex qualifies as low-income, it could speed up the amount of water the district is allowed to allocate it each year and receive its final allotment in October 2008.
