State Councilor calls for more investment in basic science research
BEIJING, March 16 (Xinhua) -- China will invest more in research on basic science, said State Councilor Chen Zhili Tuesday.
The development of basic science is important for improving the quality of China's science and technology sector, Chen said at a meeting of the Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) held here Tuesday.
The foundation, mainly to fund research programs for basic science, should make more efforts to train young scientists, she said.
The foundation, founded in 1986, has contributed to the development of China's basic science, she added.
