May 25--The University of Akron is looking for a new dean for the College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering.
Frank Kelley, who has headed the college since 1988 and helped build it into a prestigious and nationally ranked institution, is retiring. A University of Akron spokesman was not sure when Kelley will step down, but thought he would remain through the end of summer.
An 11-person search committee was named to find Kelley's successor. A university Web site says the appointment date is open, but asks applicants to submit materials as soon as possible.
George K. Haritos, dean of the College of Engineering, is the search committee chairman. Other members are David Benko, director of global materials research and development at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.; Tom Waltermire, head of the regional economic development organization Team NEO; and faculty members at the University of Akron.
Kelley could not be reached for comment Thursday morning.
The College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering is the largest single center for polymer education in the United States.
