Children from both ends of the ability range were hit by changes to exams in GCSE science, according to the Qualifications & Curriculum Authority.

Faulty questions and problems with structural change to the double science GCSE exam have been uncovered by the testing watchdog.

Doubts over the validity of GCSE coursework will also be fuelled by the QCA’s latest series of reports on whether A-level and GCSE standards have been maintained in recent years.
