Atlanta’s Georgia Gulf Corp. said Friday it was paying about $1.6 billion to buy Royal Group Technologies Ltd. of Canada.

The purchase of RGT, which is based in Toronto and makes vinyl building and construction products, will be financed by debt.

Georgia Gulf makes chlorovinyls, such as chlorine, caustic soda, vinyl chloride monomer and vinyl resins and compounds, and aromatics, such as cumene, phenol and acetone.
