Posted on: Monday, 19 June 2006, 12:00 CDT
LONDON, June 19 /PRNewswire/ -- ICIS pricing, the global market pricing and intelligence service for the oil and chemical industries, has launched a new European Recycled PET price report (RPET).
Launched in response to increasing demand, the new weekly European Recycled PET report from ICIS pricing offers accurate weekly price assessments for recycled bottles, flakes and pellets (food grade).
'Recycled PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) is a developing market, influenced by high prices in the virgin PET market, as well as EU legislation stating a minimum of plastic items should be recycled' says Simon Platt, ICIS pricing Product Development Manager. 'Consumers are also driving the use of renewables as they become more aware of environmental concerns. I am delighted that our new European Recycled PET price report will provide vital market insight on the supply and demand balance, commentary on new projects and production news, as well as information on feedstocks and derivatives markets,' he adds.
The European Packaging Directive 2004/12/EC states that 'whoever is responsible for placing packaging onto the market is also responsible for taking care of the packaging waste' and European countries have been given a target of a minimum of 23% of total plastics to be recycled, most of this is PET.
Recycled PET in Europe is a growing sector. In 2004, 665,000 tonnes of PET bottles were collected representing an 8.5% increase over 2003. It is forecast that, by 2007, PET collection will increase to more than 900,000 tonnes.
The new European Recycled PET report from ICIS pricing will also assess export demand in China and east Asia, production news and new plant capacities, unparalleled industry contacts for accurate, timely and dependable market intelligence, state of the virgin PET market, as well as trends and developments in recycling.
