Education: Out & About: This Week: Investigating Forces: Glasgow Science Centre
Posted on: Tuesday, 11 May 2004, 06:00 CDT
Glasgow Science Centre (pictured above) is a great place for schools wanting to find out about all things scientific. Three hi- tech buildings on the banks of the Clyde provide a fun and engaging setting where students can learn about science. Schools visiting the science centre can take part in Only Tools and Forces, a science show on forces for five- to 14-year-olds, held in the multimedia theatre.
Pupils can investigate Newton's three laws of motion using skateboards, potato cannons and rocket balloons. Topics covered in the demonstration include gravity, friction and magnetism. All shows encourage pupil participation and are intended to make science fun. There is a mini-show for younger pupils.
Teachers are encouraged to go on a pre-visit to familiarise themselves with the exhibits. They will need to let the centre know in advance and bring some identification.
