OUM's Curricula Developed to Meet Market Demands

OUM's curricula developed to meet market demands OPEN University Malaysia (OUM) practises a holistic approach to quality education to ensure a total learning experience.

As such, it has set up a Centre of Quality Management and Research & Innovation.

This centre has implemented a Quality Management System, which monitors OUM's philosophy, policies, vision and mission statements, mottos, levels of commitment and attitude of staff.

OUM students will be provided with learning courseware facilities (printed modules, CD-ROM, e-learning platform and e-learning course wares).

As for assessments examinations, passing and completion rates, performance of competencies or practical skills are part of the process.

OUM students get Learner Support Services such as registration and advisory services, tutoring and counselling, feedback and guidance on learning (assignments), support for progress as a learner, career advice, provision and management of learning centres.

OUM's academic programmes' curricula are developed to meet market demands. As such, the academic and courseware development processes are subjected to a rigorous system of procedures as follows:

* Its faculties first identify academic programmes that meet the demands of the market.

* A team comprising deans of faculties, lecturers and experts from professional bodies is set up to formulate the first draft of the curriculum. The first draft of the curriculum is then presented to the Board of Studies whose composition is made up of experts from academia, government and industry.

* The approved curriculum is then presented to the Academic Board of OUM.

* Finally, the revised curriculum is submitted to the Private Education Department and the National Accreditation Board for approval to offer the programmes to the public.
