ALPENA, Mich., July 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Just weeks after the U.S. established the largest area of conservation on earth in creating the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands Marine National Monument, Marine Sanctuaries Media announces that art quality photos from unique places like this are now available online.
From lighthouses to coral reefs and from ship wrecks to humpback whales, Marine Sanctuaries Media, a Division of Northern Exposure Media, LLC announces the world-wide launch of website where photographs, video and other products are available for the first time.
This site offers the public the opportunity to purchase high-resolution images from the National Marine Sanctuaries library of exclusive content. This library contains more than 200,000 high-resolution images from within the National Marine Sanctuaries around the United States and American Samoa. These Sanctuaries encompass deep coral gardens, near-shore coral reefs, whale migration corridors, deep sea canyons, historic shipwrecks and even underwater archeological sites. The National Marine Sanctuary Foundation has teamed with Marine Sanctuaries Media to expand the foundation's mission of supporting educational programs, conservation, exploration and ongoing research of our nation's ocean and coastal treasures. A portion of the revenues generated from this project will be returned to the foundation to further their mission. Marine Sanctuaries Media's website, http://www.marinesanctuariesmedia.com/ offers visitors the ability to search content by product type, photographer or individual marine sanctuary. The website also allows visitors to learn about each sanctuary, its upcoming events, a guided tour of the sanctuary, as well as the current site newsletter.
Marine Sanctuaries Media has production facilities housed in Alpena Michigan, which is the home of the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary. This sanctuary has control of the largest and most exclusive collection of Great Lakes Maritime Heritage photos and memorabilia in existence. The collection has over 66,000 one of a kind photos that will be offered on the Marine Sanctuaries Media website.
The National Marine Sanctuary Foundation is the private, non-profit partner to the federally managed National Marine Sanctuary System; and was created to inspire all people to preserve, protect and promote our nationwide network of marine sanctuaries. These 14 marine protected areas encompass more than 150,000 square miles of marine and Great Lakes waters stretching from the Florida Keys to the Hawaiian Islands, from Lake Huron to the Gulf of Mexico. Through public and private sector partnerships the Foundation creates conservation-based research, education and outreach programs designed to connect the public with these special ocean and coastal recourses.
The National Marine Sanctuary Program is part of the U.S. Department of Commerce's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which manages these marine resources by working cooperatively with the public to protect sanctuary waters while allowing compatible recreational and commercial activities. The program works to enhance public awareness of our marine resources and marine heritage through scientific research, monitoring, exploration, educational programs and outreach.
