Milliken StainSmart Helps Improve Comfort and Care of Hospital Patients; New Healing Threads Hospital Clothing for Women Undergoing Specialized Medical Treatment Features StainSmart Fabric Technology for Superior Comfort and Stain Protection

Posted on: Tuesday, 25 July 2006, 12:01 CDT

Milliken & Company, one of the world's largest privately-held textile and chemical manufacturers, announces that StainSmart, the company's propriety dual-action stain repel-and-release fabric technology, is being utilized in a new line of fashionable yet functional hospital clothing for women undergoing specialized medical treatment such as chemotherapy, radiation, MRIs, CT scans and outpatient surgeries. The clothing is also appropriate and practical for nursing moms.

Created by Spirited Sisters(TM) Inc., the new Original Healing Threads(TM) hospital patient clothing includes an array of jackets and pants with examination- and treatment-friendly features to help ensure the comfort, privacy and dignity of patients. Innovative and thoughtfully designed features such as ribbon-tied roll-up sleeves and breakaway pieces built into garment tops and bottoms enable patients to expose only necessary parts of their bodies for treatment or examination. Soft, easy care fabrics and sophisticated designs help keep patients comfortable while maintaining a sense of fashion.

The line features Milliken's StainSmart fabric technology which gives it superior stain protection and ease of care. Most liquid and oil-based spills bead up and roll-off, preventing the majority of soils from initially staining the fabric. Oil-based and particulate stains that penetrate and are ground into the garment can be washed away during normal laundering. The fabrics are made of microfiber polyester with excellent drape and softness, are color-fast and wrinkle resistant, and are machine wash and dry.

"StainSmart adds significant value to our Healing Threads line, giving our clothing superior stain resistance without compromising comfort," said Peg Feodoroff, President and founder of Spirited Sisters. "This in turn helps contribute to our mission of helping women affected by cancer remain dignified, attractive and most importantly, comfortable while undergoing treatments."

"The Original Healing Threads line of hospital garments is a wonderful alternative to the typical flimsy patient gown. And the stain protection means you won't be wearing Betadine(R) all day. We're proud to provide fabric technology that helps improve the experience and care of women battling illness," said Lyn Murajda, division brand manager for Milliken & Company, manufacturer of StainSmart fabric.

The Original Health Threads garments retail from $45.00 - $119.99 and are available direct from Spirited Sisters, Inc. For more information, visit http://www.spirited-sisters.com/ or call toll free phone 877-647-3900.

About StainSmart

StainSmart's repellent feature means that most liquid and oil-based spills bead up and roll-off, preventing the majority of soils from initially staining the fabric. Thicker liquids can be removed by cleaning with a damp cloth. StainSmart's release feature allows tough oil-based and particulate stains that penetrate and are ground into the garment to be washed away during normal laundering. The patented chemical technology works in conjunction with detergents and water to more effectively release stains in the wash cycle and it is durable for the life of the garment.
