Pennsylvania Receives $2 Million Grant to Aid State's Flood Recovery Efforts

HARRISBURG, Pa., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Governor Edward G. Rendell announced today that Pennsylvania has received nearly $2 million in federal grant money to create 150 temporary jobs to help with continued flood cleanup and recovery efforts.
"In June, several of our communities suffered heavy flood water damage," said Governor Rendell. "The waters may have receded, but families are still dealing with the aftermath. These families deserve all the support we can provide in rebuilding their lives, and these funds will allow us to help them as they clean up and make repairs."
Awarded to the state Department of Labor & Industry, the grant will fund debris cleanup and removal in the following eight counties: Bradford, Bucks, Columbia, Luzerne, Northampton, Northumberland, Susquehanna and Wyoming. Workers will be recruited through their local PA CareerLink and worksite locations will be determined at the local level. Positions available include laborers, crew leaders and project coordinators.
On June 28, Governor Rendell signed a Declaration of Disaster Emergency, followed by a request for National Emergency Grant funds in July. A request for additional funding, to support other designated disaster counties, is still pending.
Individuals who have been dislocated as a result of the flood or who may be classified as long-term unemployed are eligible for jobs funded by the grant.
