RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., and BOSTON, June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Synthematix(R), Inc., a provider of chemistry reaction planning tools for synthetic chemists, and Boston University's Center for Chemical Methodology and Library Development (CMLD-BU), announced the deployment of Synthematix's Arthur(TM) Suite giving scientists the ability to quickly and efficiently search CMLD-BU's novel chemical synthesis protocols at http://cmld.bu.edu/ .
"The Center for Chemical Methodology and Library Development at Boston University (CMLD-BU) has a mandate to provide information to the public on parallel and library synthesis" according to Professor John Porco, Director of the CMLD-BU. "We were thus quite interested in identifying an advanced cheminformatics platform to enable our chemists to share procedures and facilitate planning of new experiments," said Professor Scott E. Schaus, co- investigator of the CMLD-BU. "Synthematix's Arthur Suite provides our scientists with unique functionality which makes possible the rapid dissemination of chemical protocols and compound entities. The software suite will enable the CMLD-BU to share information with the public through the Internet. Synthematix's technology for sharing information and their willingness to collaborate with our academic center made them an ideal partner for the CMLD-BU."
Synthematix's web-based chemical search technology is a leading edge solution that allows a user to simply draw molecules or fragments of molecules and then rapidly search for matches in the CMLD-BU set of published protocols. Searching can be done for exact structure matches as well as for substructures, reaction conditions, reagents, yields, and a host of other search criteria. Data available to scientists searching the site will include physical and analytical properties of the molecules plus detailed information about the reagents, equipment and step-by-step procedures used in synthesis. No other chemistry site currently offers this breadth of practical information about synthesizing compounds.
"We are very excited to be working with some of the world's leading chemists at Boston University," said Robin Smith, Synthematix's Founder and CSO. "The CMLD-BU is a leading 'center of excellence' for producing novel chemical libraries of unprecedented complexity for biological screening. We are interfacing with leading scientists, equipment suppliers, and cheminformtics specialists who are interested in sharing chemical knowledge and leading edge techniques. The technologies and methods developed here will help to shape the way chemical research and development is done in the future."

About Boston University's Center for Chemical Methodology and Library Development (CMLD-BU)
The CMLD-BU ( http://cmld.bu.edu/ ) is funded by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to discover new methodologies and to produce novel chemical libraries of unprecedented complexity for biological screening. The Center's goal is to expand the diversity of small molecule libraries by creating general, useful protocols for stereocontrolled synthesis and also provide molecules to researchers in the biomedical sciences. Projects underway at the CMLD employ stereochemical and positional variation within the molecular framework as diversity elements for library design. Methodology protocols will be made freely available on the Center's website using the Synthematix Arthur Suite.
