Hurricane John Threatens Mexico

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - Tropical storm John turned into a hurricane off Mexico's Pacific Coast on Tuesday, threatening to trigger dangerous flash floods and mudslides.

The Miami-based National Hurricane Center said John was packing maximum sustained winds near 80 mph and higher gusts.

Storm warnings were posted for a long stretch of coastline from the beach resort of Acapulco to the industrial port of Lazaro Cardenas, as John became the sixth hurricane of the east Pacific season.
