PLATO Learning (NASDAQ:TUTR) today announced that five of its products--Straight Curve(TM) Mathematics, PLATO(R) Earth and Space Science, PLATO(R) Course-Algebra 1, PLATO(R) Course-Geography, and WorldView(R) Economics--have received 2006 ComputED Learning Center Education Software Review (EDDIE) Awards. Straight Curve Mathematics was one of only five products selected for posted reviews.
The 11th Annual EDDIE Awards target innovative and content-rich programs and web sites that provide parents and teachers with technology to foster educational excellence. Winners are selected based on academic content, potential for broad classroom use, technical merit, subject approach, and management system.
Straight Curve Mathematics, released by PLATO Learning in April 2006, was awarded an EDDIE in the upper elementary category. Straight Curve Mathematics is designed to enrich core mathematics curriculum and provide deeper instructional focus on the toughest concepts within the NCTM strands of numbers and operations, measurement, algebra, geometry, and data analysis and probability. In the posted review for Straight Curve Mathematics, the selection committee stated, "Straight Curve Mathematics provides an invaluable supplement to any existing math curriculum."
PLATO Earth and Space Science received an EDDIE in the middle school category. Part of the PLATO(R) Middle School Science Series, PLATO Earth and Space Science joins PLATO(R) Physical Science and PLATO(R) Life Science to create an innovative, standards-based curriculum that addresses complex science concepts with interactive and engaging lessons that promote scientific inquiry, problem solving, and critical thinking.
Two PLATO Courses were awarded EDDIES in the high school category. PLATO Courses provide a semester-long, full-course solution for granting credit in an online, alternative learning environment allowing non-traditional or at-risk students to rapidly complete courses, recover credits, and progress to graduation. Finally, WorldView Economics, a comprehensive curriculum distributed by PLATO Learning, received an EDDIE in the high school category.
"Each of the curricula awarded 2006 EDDIES represent the newest releases from PLATO Learning. We are honored that the selection committee chose to recognize the strong research and innovative instructional design behind these products," said Mike Morache, PLATO Learning President and CEO. "Educators around the country have easily integrated these curricula into their classrooms to enhance their text-based curriculum and increase academic progress. These awards show that independent industry experts recognize the value of our rich multimedia designs for the nation's classrooms."
