LADWP Dedicates $10 Million for Mayor's Affordable Housing Initiative; Funds Will Support Energy Efficiency and Water Conservation Programs

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) Board of Water and Power Commissioners has approved an agreement to provide up to $10 million in energy efficiency and water conservation measures to support permanent affordable housing development projects in the City of Los Angeles. LADWP will provide products, services and incentives that promote water conservation and energy efficiency through numerous existing programs as well as through utility infrastructure loans, low-income electricity and water rate discounts.
At the request of Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa, LADWP will help support the City's Permanent Supportive Housing Program (PSHP) through a cooperative agreement with the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA), and the Los Angeles Housing Department (LAHD).
"I want to thank the Department of Water and Power for this significant contribution to enhancing the supply of affordable housing in Los Angeles," Mayor Villaraigosa said. "The LADWP's support in terms of programs, incentives, infrastructure loans and expertise will be of great benefit to the success of this program while also advancing the goals of saving water and reducing energy use."
The PSHP's objectives are to produce housing units targeted for homeless families, individuals, and low- and very-low-income residents; to create healthy environments within each housing development through a variety of on-site supportive services; and to revitalize communities suffering from high concentrations of chronically homeless individuals. LADWP will support the program through promotion of energy and water efficient technologies and awareness.
"LADWP is very pleased to support the Mayor's proposal to boost the supply of affordable housing in Los Angeles," LADWP General Manager Ron Deaton said. "This will not only help increase affordable housing and shelter for homeless families, but also achieve water and energy savings for these residential customers that will benefit the entire City."
