Dominion Volunteers Undertake 19 Environmental Projects in 14 States From Virginia to Utah

RICHMOND, Va., Sept. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Protecting wetlands, constructing a greenhouse for an elementary school and improving access to nature sites are among the projects that more than 500 Dominion volunteers in 14 states will undertake this fall as part of the company's annual "Putting Our Energy to Work for the Environment" campaign.

In all, Dominion employees will work to complete 19 environmental projects this fall. These projects will add to the 100 projects completed, the 50,000 hours volunteered and the $250,000 in tools and materials donated since the company began the "Putting Our Energy to Work for the Environment" campaign in 2000.

This year's projects include repairing berms in a wetland in Clover, Va.; construction of a greenhouse at an elementary school in Spotsylvania County, Va.; the creation of walking paths at Towpath Trails Park in Northfield, Ohio; and replacing a roof at historic Fort New Salem in Salem, W.Va.

Under the "Putting Our Energy to Work for the Environment" program, Dominion employees work with outside agencies to locate and plan a one-day project to improve the environment. The company provides one day off for volunteers to complete the project. About 40 Dominion employees typically volunteer for each event.

In addition, the company provides up to $2,500 for tools and materials for each of the projects.

The projects planned for this year are: Virginia Suffolk -- Replace a boardwalk in the Great Dismal Swamp Spotsylvania -- Construct a greenhouse at Livingston Elementary School Clover -- Repair berms in a wetland in partnership with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries Hampton -- Construct a board walk at historic Fort Wool Woodbridge -- Build a gazebo at Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge Ohio Clinton -- Create a stone walkway at the Limbach Buildings Northfield -- Build trails and make benches at Towpath Trails West Virginia Salem -- Replace roof and install drainage system at Fort New Salem Pennsylvania DuBois -- Build a wall and fence at Wildlife Habitat Unlimited North Carolina Roanoke Rapids -- Construct overlook platforms at the Canal Museum Maryland Lusby -- Plant trees at Cove Point Park Wisconsin Kewaunee -- Create walkway and build picnic tables at Bruemmer Park Connecticut Stonington -- Fence gardens and plant tomatoes at Terra Firma Farm Rhode Island Providence -- Build a walkway at Roger Williams Zoo Massachusetts Salem -- Landscaping at Dave Beattie Park Texas Houston -- Project with the Sims Bayou Nature Center Louisiana New Orleans -- Project with the Botanical Garden at City Park Utah Roosevelt -- Plant trees at Old Mill Park Oklahoma Oklahoma City -- Environmental project in partnership with the city
