Long Beach International City Bank Marathon Athletes and Spectators 'Chill Out' With Icelandic Glacial

Posted on: Tuesday, 3 October 2006, 12:00 CDT

LONG BEACH, Calif., Oct. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- International City Racing is proud to announce Icelandic Glacial spring water, now distributed locally by Anheuser-Busch, as the official water sponsor of the 2006 Long Beach International City Bank Marathon to be held on Sunday, October 15, 2006. In addition to providing water for 18,000+ participating athletes at 22 "Chill Out" zones throughout the courses and at the finish line festival, 2,000 marathon volunteers will also enjoy the clean, refreshing taste of one of the world's naturally purest waters direct from Iceland's Olfus Spring. Race spectators will also have the opportunity to cool off with Icelandic Glacial by purchasing a bottle at various locations throughout and after the race.

"We're thrilled to have Icelandic Glacial on board as our official marketing partner and water sponsor," said Bob Seagren, CEO of International City Racing. "It's a real treat for us to provide the athletes with a quality, pure water that will keep them hydrated throughout the race and offer cool refreshment at the finish line."

The event will see Icelandic Glacial heavily promoted along the race route and at all official water stations, with banners and other promotional elements in addition to water sales to the general public. The event will also provide a perfect platform to reinforce the brand's strong showing in the U.S. this year.

Icelandic Glacial COO Patrick Racz commented, "To be involved with an event of this scale and growth is hugely exciting for us. There is a very natural fit for Icelandic Glacial with running, and the sponsorship presents a fantastic opportunity for Icelandic Glacial to connect with our target audience, raising brand awareness and offering further support to our retailers in the area."

One of the newest and purest super-premium bottled waters available to consumers -- with 68ppm total dissolved solids (TDS), Icelandic Glacial is receiving rave reviews for its crisp, clean taste and award-winning bottle design.

The source of this legendary water is Iceland's Olfus Spring, a naturally replenished catchment zone formed over 4,500 years ago during a massive volcanic eruption. Shielded from pollution by an impenetrable barrier of lava rock, this underground spring is one of the largest in the world, extending out under the ocean bed and covering approximately 200 square miles. Each square, 3-D, ice-cap-shaped bottle of Icelandic Glacial features one of four Icelandic landscapes on one of 16 bottle designs. The likelihood of having six identical bottles in a row on the store shelf has been calculated at a million to one.

Unexposed to outside air until the first time you open the cap, Icelandic Glacial is a refreshing taste of everyday luxury while at work, in the gym or on the go.
