Science Students Land Top Award With River Investigation

Posted on: Saturday, 3 July 2004, 06:00 CDT

A GROUP of young North Wales science students have won a top prize for their investigation of local rivers.

Katerina Jonathan, Ceri Thomas, Tomos Prys-Jones and Gwern Llyd Owain, all 13, came away from a science conference in Salford with the top presentation award for the north-west UK.

The pupils, from Ysgol Brynhyfryd in Ruthin, exchanged data, photos and videos about rivers with Cheltenham Girls High School in Sydney, Australia.

The project was developed by chemistry teacher Robyn Williams and was awarded a citizenship award by BT Education in January.

The team will now compete in the national final at the Faraday Lecture Theatre at the Royal Institution in London in September.
