Science Center, in a Bid to Become World's Foremost Science and Technology Commercialization Engine, Breaks Ground for New Laboratory/Office Building

The Science Center will break ground on the first building in its $600 million expansion at 10:00 am. on Monday, October 23, 2006. When completed, the expansion will more than double the Science Center's campus size from 1.7 million square feet to 3.5 million square feet The new building is part of a real estate and biotech commercialization strategy to position the Science Center and Philadelphia as the premiere science and technology center in the world.
The new building, at 3711 Market Street, will provide 150,000 sq. ft. of laboratory and office space. The ground breaking and reception will highlight the Science Center's plan to attract international companies to the region, and more innovation and high-paying jobs to Philadelphia. The additional space will enable Science Center companies to remain in University City as they grow.
