TORONTO, Oct. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- MetriGenix Corp., a pioneer in the development of cost-effective, easy-to-use gene-expression analysis systems, announced today that it has changed its name to Xceed Molecular. The name change comes as the company transitions from development stage to a nimble, customer-focused business, with innovative products and services designed to translate biomarker-based tests from research into routine clinical use.
"Xceed Molecular makes a simple, forthright statement that reflects both our aspirations for ourselves and our commitment to our customers," said Michael Cohen, Xceed's chief executive officer. "Our goal is to improve health outcomes by accelerating multiplex tests from research to clinical use. To succeed, we are making routine multiplex tests feasible, fast, and affordable. We believe our system and services offer biomedical and clinical research customers the simplest route to success."
Xceed Molecular was founded in Toronto as MetriGenix Corporation in December 2003. Its patented Flow-Thru Chip(R) technology, a microporous silicon substrate for biological analysis, enables hybridizations that are four-times faster than conventional microarray formats. In December 2004, it acquired GeneXP Biosciences, a Massachusetts-based company with complementary technology. In 2005, the company consolidated operations in Toronto and focused its strategy on molecular diagnostics.
Today, as Xceed Molecular, the company offers custom array services to biomedical and clinical research customers using its Ziplex(TM) automated workstation. Services include design of custom TipChip(TM) arrays with the customer's content of interest, sample analysis (including sample prep, hybridization, quality control), and results delivered in a summary report. Xceed plans to make the complete Ziplex system commercially available early next year. Xceed is also developing proprietary test panels for use in research, clinical trials, and personalized predictive medicine.
