Science Teachers From Across the Nation Flock to Baltimore for NSTA's 2006 Eastern Area Conference

ARLINGTON, Va., Oct. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), the largest professional organization in the world promoting excellence and innovation in science teaching, announced it will be in Baltimore November 2-4 for its annual Eastern Area Conference. With an expected attendance of over 2,500 science educators from across the nation, the Eastern Area Conference will be held at the Baltimore Convention Center and other local venues.

Designed to enhance professional development and provide networking forums for science educators, the three-day conference will feature hundreds of hands-on workshops, presentations about the latest breakthroughs in science, and demonstrations covering every discipline, grade level and teaching focus. Teachers will discuss popular issues including, science teaching, learning and student achievement; the teaching of evolution; forensic science; virtual laboratory science; the No Child Left Behind Act; current reform efforts; how Pluto's "demotion" as a planet will affect science classrooms; and science literacy and our nation's competitiveness. In addition, attendees will hear about the hottest topics in science education from nationally-renowned speakers, including Freeman A. Hrabowski III, president of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and Dr. Brady Barr, resident scientist at National Geographic Television.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to explore the NSTA's Exhibition of Science and Teaching Materials. From the latest high-tech calculators to scientifically engineered container gardens, attendees will be able to examine and learn about the latest science education materials, laboratory equipment and computer hardware and software available.

The NSTA Eastern Area Conference begins on Thursday, November 2 at 7:30 a.m. and will conclude at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 4.
