HOSTS Sultan Mahmud Science School (Sesma) began the Fifth Annual Boarding School Rugby 10s tournament with three wins in Group D in Kuala Terengganu yesterday.
Sesma, last year's semi-finalists in Ipoh, beat Tun Syed Sheikh Sahabuddin Science School 10-0 before handing Selandar Integration School a 48-0 thrashing and Seremban Science School a 29-0 beating.
All the other three teams from Terengganu - Dungun Science School, Kuala Terengganu Science School and Batu Rakit Integration School - had a miserable opening day losing all their matches.
Defending champions Selangor Science School (SMSS), meanwhile, were held to a goalless draw by Johor Science School after edging Royal Military College 5-0 and giving Gombak Integration School a 34- 0 hiding in Group A.
Alam Shah School (SAS), runners-up last year, dominated Group B beating Sabak Bernam Integration School 24-0, Alam Shah Science School 22-0 and Tuan Syed Putra Science School with a similar score. A total of 48 teams are competing in the three-day tournament.
Venues for the preliminary group matches are at Sesma Ground and Teknik Secondary School Field in Kuala Terengganu.
