RALEIGH, N.C., Oct. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- China Everbright International Ltd. (EB International) has signed a cooperative agreement with the Raleigh-based North Carolina China Center (NCCC) to jointly develop a world class research center for environmental science and technology. The agreement was signed during a recent visit to China and Hong Kong by an NCCC delegation led by Duane Long, chairman, and Tony Copeland, assistant secretary for business development and trade, North Carolina Department of Commerce.
"With Everbright's leading position in China's environment protection industry and North Carolina's strength in environmental science and technology, I'm confident that the partnership between Everbright International and the North Carolina China Center will lead to the establishment of a premier world-class research center that focuses on developing new and practical technologies for solving the growing environmental problems in China," said Xiaoping Chen, chief executive officer of Everbright International in Hong Kong.
"The mission of NCCC is to serve as a statewide catalyst and resource for the promotion of economic, educational, governmental and citizen pursuits between North Carolina and China," said Dr. Lian Xie, president and executive director of NCCC.
"As a North Carolina citizen born in China and a scientist studying environmental issues, I know how much fresher the air is and how much cleaner the water is here in North Carolina than in China. There is nothing more important than to be able to help improve the environment in China while bringing economic benefits to North Carolina. It is my dream to see the environment in my hometown become as clean as that in my new home in North Carolina. The Everbright partnership is a step forward to that dream," Dr. Xie said.
Ted Abernathy, chief executive officer of Research Triangle Regional Partnership of North Carolina, and other leaders of the Everbright Company and NCCC were also present at the signing ceremony.
