E.Coli Bacteria Found in Water at UBC Test Site, but Could Be False Positive

BURNABY, B.C. (CP) - Health officials say the E.coli bacteria has been discovered at a water testing site at the University of B.C.
However officials say the murky water coming from Vancouver-area water sheds is so loaded with chlorine, the test result could be a false-positive.
Dr. Patricia Daly, a medical health officer for Vancouver Coastal Health, says this testing site doesn't supply residents or other facilities at UBC, so there's little risk.
Officials are also looking at a nearby compost heap to see if that may be the cause of the bacteria.
Daly says no one has come into local hospital emergency rooms complaining of diarrhea or stomach cramps since the boil-water advisory went up last week.
Officials also say the advisory will remain up for at least another few days for Vancouver, the North Shore and Burnaby until the water turbidity levels go down.
