Documents Released in Station Club Fire

Newly-released documents could answer how inspectors missed flammable wall material in The Station before a 2003 fire destroyed the West Warwick, R.I., club.
Among the documents made public was an interview with Fire Marshal Denis P. Larocque, who told investigators that he was angry during an inspection three months before the fire that killed 100 people, The Providence (R.I.) Journal said.
The Feb. 20, 2003, fire was the result of an illegal pyrotechnics display during a performance by the rock group Great White.
Larocque said that he finished inspecting one part of the building when he saw a door next to the nightclub's stage. A year earlier, Larocque said he had ordered the door removed -- and confirmed it was -- a year before because it opened into the building in violation of the state fire code.
According to the transcript, Larocque said, I really got upset that someone would reinstall something that we had already cited them for.
Larocque's statement was among more than 3,000 pages released Thursday by Rhode Island Attorney General Patrick C. Lynch. In addition, officials released more than 2,200 pages of documents seized from the home of one of the nightclub's co-owners.
