EXCELSIOR, Minn., Dec. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The North American Lake Management Society (NALMS) announced today that Mr. Dick Osgood, a member of the society since 1980, has been elected as President, a three-year term that will begin next year. Mr. Osgood will oversee the agenda for the board and all policies, programs, committees and planning for the organization. He will also serve as the key contact person for external agencies and organizations such as the US EPA, and other state and federal agencies.
Prior to his role as President, Mr. Osgood served as chair of Planning, Policy and Development Committees and as Treasurer (2001-2005) for NALMS. Mr. Osgood also currently serves as Public Policy committee chair and Secretary for Minnesota Waters, a state organization affiliated with NALMS. His company, Osgood Consulting, was also voted as NALMS Outstanding Corporation of the year in 2005. Mr. Osgood also holds a Masters of Science degree in ecology from the University of Minnesota.
"We are very excited to have Mr. Osgood lead our organization," said Sue Robertson of the Tennessee Valley Authority and NALMS Treasurer. "His expertise and background in lake management and conservation will be a big asset in bringing together citizens, scientists and policy-makers to implement sound lake and watershed management."
On his new role as President, Mr. Osgood stated, "Being elected to head an organization like NALMS is a great honor. As President, my main goal is to guide the transition from a volunteer society to a governance-type board of retaining a full-time Executive Director and training the board in a governance role. I will also aim to increase membership from new categories, such as water supply managers and highlight emerging lake and reservoir concerns, such as toxic algae, exotic species infestations and surface use conflicts and management. I'm excited to be apart of a great organization like NALMS and its members that are focused on the same goal of preserving and protecting our lakes and waterways."
