BOCA RATON, Fla., Dec. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, more than 95% of baby bottles are produced from polycarbonate, made from a chemical known to disrupt the hormone system called Bisphenol - A (BPA). Research facilities globally have shown BPA's ability to readily leach from plastic. Further, extremely small doses of BPA have shown effects on laboratory rats. These effects include: breast cancer, prostate cancer, Type II diabetes, sexual maturation, Down syndrome, infertility, neurological disorders, alteration of sexual preference and obesity.
Born Free's focus on creating baby products has led to the development of a smarter, safer alternative to plastics currently utilized in the baby bottle market. Born Free and the Children's Health Environmental Coalition (CHEC) have partnered to further communicate the seriousness of toxic chemicals and their usage. Pregnant mothers and infants are the most susceptible to hormone- bending chemicals due to the sensitivity of early-stage development.
"CHEC has launched a nationwide campaign called the Blue Butterfly campaign, warning parents of the dangers of pesticides, harmful plastics, and the need for greater consumption of organic foods. Our identification of safer products led to our endorsement of the Born Free feeding system," said CHEC CEO Christopher Gavigan.
Through the partnership, CHEC and Born Free will host online seminars, participate in parental tradeshows, provide linkages to scientific experts on product/baby safety and promote Born Free's continued development efforts.
Born Free shares in CHEC's mission to: * Create awareness of preventable, environmental risks to children's health. * Help people learn about safer practices and products. * Encourage the public to adopt these safer products and practices. * Change government and corporate policies to protect children from environmental hazards.
