TORONTO (CP) - The federal government continued to shore up its image on the environment file today, committing up to $20 million for a project to reclaim industrial land in Toronto.
The high-powered announcement - of a relatively modest funding amount - came from Finance Minister Jim Flaherty and Infrastructure Minister Lawrence Cannon. The money will go toward creating an urban green space, dubbed Evergreen, at the site of an old brickworks yard.
Flaherty says Ottawa is committed to the three Es - environment, economy and energy.
He says the Conservatives recognize that the environment and economy "walk hand in hand."
Embattled Environment Minister Rona Ambrose, rumoured to be on her way out of cabinet in an expected shuffle, was originally scheduled to attend the event, but instead made a biodiesel announcement in Saskatoon.
