Nation to Remember Ford, City and Federal Offices Closed Today

Jan. 2–Many city and federal offices, including post offices and Wichita Public Library branches, will be closed today because of a National Day of Mourning for former President Gerald Ford.

According to the City of Wichita’s Web site, www.wichita.gov [http://www.wichita.gov], all municipal court cases that were scheduled for today will be rescheduled at the same time and courtroom on Feb. 13.

A service for Ford, the 38th president, will be held today at Washington National Cathedral.

Here is a more detailed list of closings:

–Federal: All offices will be closed, including federal court, Social Security and post offices. No mail delivery. The VA Medical Center will remain open.

–State: Most offices will be closed, including district court and the Workforce Alliance of South Central Kansas. Wichita State (including pre-session courses), Kansas State and the University of Kansas will also be closed. District attorney’s and attorney general’s offices will remain open.

–County: The Sedgwick County Courthouse will be closed, except for the 8:30 a.m. traffic court docket, which will be held in the first floor jury room. All other county offices will be open.

–City: City hall, neighborhood city halls and Wichita Public Library branches will be closed. All library programs scheduled for today have been canceled. All municipal court cases will be rescheduled to Feb. 13, at the same designated time and courtroom. Buses will run as scheduled, and the Transit Center will be open. The animal shelter will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. Most area banks and liquor stores will be open.

Suburban residents should call their city offices for information on closings.
