Heavy waves drub Gulf of Thailand
BANGKOK, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) — Continuing drubbing by a series of 2- 3 meter high waves along the upper southern Gulf of Thailand provinces has led the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) to urge New Year’s reveler to monitor weather forecasts before heading for the water since Sunday.
Violent waves are still breaking across the regions beaches in Surat Thani and Chumphon provinces with waves as high as three meters, TAT said, adding that people who planned to travel to the region to celebrate the New Year should monitor weather forecast closely.
The TAT advised revelers to travel to eastern resort provinces including Rayong and Chanthaburi because hotel rentals and food are relatively inexpensive, the weather is pleasantly cool and the sea is not rough.
Meanwhile, regarding security measures, checkpoints have been set up at highways while rescue workers are patrolling both land and sea areas regularly to help tourists in case an accident occurs, the staterun Thai News Agency said.
