More than 100,000 Malaysia residents have been evacuated because of a monsoon battering the South China Sea.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department says relief centers have been set up in Johor and Pahang due to flooding from the rains, the Bernama News Agency reports.

The department says the monsoon is expected to continue to produce moderate rain until Wednesday.

Numerous roads remain closed to traffic while villages that had to be evacuated were still under water on Monday.

There was no word on when residents would be allowed to return.
