FARMER’S daughter Caroline Fearon is the NFU’s new group secretary in Broughton, Cumbria.

Farming is in Caroline’s blood. Brought up on the family’s dairy farm in Cartmel, Caroline left home and completed a degree in agriculture and farm management at Newcastle University.

Broughton is renowned for being a very complex and unique patch where some NFU members rely heavily on the group office for help and guidance on a number of issues.

Caroline said: “I am prepared for anything that is thrown at me. I grew up in this area so can relate with the farmers of Broughton. I know that I will have to go that extra mile for them and I’m more than prepared to do it.”

A rugby fan who supports Penrith, Caroline is looking forward to working alongside fellow group secretary, Judith Kirkbride, and can’t wait to get out on farm.

Outside of work, Caroline enjoys amateur operatics and is currently performing in Ok lahoma with her local society. She also enjoys dancing.

Ulverston NFU also has a new group secretary.

Steven Brettle, 28, worked within the poultry industry for seven years. A graduate in animal science at Aberys-twyth University, he worked on poultry units the length and breadth of the country, his last job being a hatchery manager for a unit in Shropshire which specialised in day old chicks.

“I wanted to work within the poultry industry when I left university because it seemed exciting, cut throat and progressive,” said Ulver-ston-born Steven who spends his spare time racing his rally car.

“I have an interest in every aspect of farming and I’m looking forward to working with farmers in the dairy and livestock sectors. It will also be a privilege to work alongside Tom Hodgson who is well known in the area and very well respected.”
