Ocean Observing System Focus of Blue Hill Talk
BLUE HILL – The Gulf of Maine Ocean Observing System: The State of the Art and Science will be presented by Dr. Heal Pettigrew 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, as the first of the Marine Environmental Research Institute’s Ocean Environment Lecture Series.
The system is a real-time monitoring program that provides fishermen, scientists, sailors and others with weather and oceanographic conditions in the Gulf of Maine using a network of deployed buoys.
A reception and art exhibition will be held in the Ocean Art Gallery at 6 p.m. featuring paintings by Jetsun Penkalski of Surry and Robert Starkey of Sedgwick. All works are for sale, and a portion of the proceeds go to the institute’s research and education programs.
