MORE than 50 teams from schools across the West Midlands will be putting their knowledge of science to the test at the University of Birmingham Physics Big Quiz 2007.
Organised by the university’s Outreach department and the School of Physics and Astronomy, the event on Wednesday is aimed at celebrating the joys of physics and raising the aspirations of young people to study and enjoy the sciences.
The quiz, which takes place at the university’s Edgbaston campus from 10am to 3pm, will see 13 and 14-year-olds competing against each other in various rounds, focusing on different aspects of science.
Students will also take part in an interactive activity – from the wonders of liquid nitrogen to building remote-controlled robotic vehicles from Lego.
Winning team members will be presented with gold medals and a prize each, while the school will receive pounds 250, a crystal trophy and a plaque.
