Garvin Park will go to the dogs today at the Vanderburgh Humane Society's Furry Scurry and Fido Fest.
This is the second year the Humane Society has held the event, which includes a benefit dog walk, a singles mixer and an All- American Dog show.
"People had a great time last year," said Kendall Paul, Vanderburgh Humane Society's public relations director.
In June, the Humane Society moved into a new facility on Millner Drive.
Paul said this year's proceeds will go towards operating costs at the new building.
"We have bigger bills," Paul said. "Our bills are up because we're in the new facility. Our annual budget has gone up."
The event will take place at Garvin Park and Bosse Field's parking lot from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Registration for the "furry scurry walk" is at 9 a.m., and the walk starts at 10 a.m.
Walkers who raise the minimum $25 will get a Humane Society rubber ball and a certificate for a dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts. For those who raise up to $500, other prizes include leashes, Otters tickets and nylon jackets.
An event that's new to this year's event is a mixer, where singles can bring their dogs and meet others and their pets, Paul said.
The Humane Society has partnered with Matchmaker International for the event.
In conjunction with the Evansville Dog owners Group, there will be a dog swim and off-leash area at the event.
Paul said all dogs must be current on their vaccinations, and if the dog participates in the swim, the owner must show proof.
There will also be a coloring contests for both children and dogs and a pet fashion show.
"This is a really great festival," Paul said. "We want people to come out with their animals and have fun."
