Rasansky Law Firm Announces Lawsuit Against Big Rig Driver, Trucking Company in Fatal 18-Wheeler Crash

MCKINNEY, Texas, Feb. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Attorneys for the family of a Collin County school teacher have filed a lawsuit over the October 2006 automobile crash that claimed the woman's life. Witnesses say the collision occurred after the driver of an 18-wheeler ran a red light, striking the teacher's car.
Cynthia Carter, 33, of McKinney, died on Oct. 18, 2006, when her Ford Focus was struck by an 18-wheeler at the intersection of State Highway 121 and Custer Road in Plano. Mrs. Carter's vehicle was pinned underneath the sand- hauling truck and dragged approximately 150 yards before bursting into flames.
The truck driver, Jeremy Davidson, was charged with manslaughter two weeks after the crash and is awaiting trial. State records show that he had a history of operating trucks with safety violations.
Mr. Davidson is named as a defendant in the lawsuit along with Billy Ray Keel Trucking; company owner Billy Ray Keel; and two companies that hired the trucking company, Carrollton-based Alliance Haulers Inc. and Austin-based U.S. Concrete Inc. All of the defendants face negligence and gross negligence claims in the lawsuit filed by Dallas' Rasansky Law Firm.
"Mrs. Carter was a wonderful teacher and mother who didn't deserve to die and shouldn't have died," says Jeff Rasansky, lead counsel for the Carter family. "We believe the evidence will show that the defendants looked the other way when this poorly maintained tractor trailer was put on the road with a driver who wasn't provided the necessary training to operate such a dangerous vehicle."
Mrs. Carter is survived by her husband, Amani, and their three minor children. She taught fifth grade at Ferris Intermediate School.
