China to handsomely reward outstanding forestry researchers
BEIJING, July 25 (Xinhua) -- A total of 5 million yuan (604,594 US dollars) will be rewarded every year those who make outstanding achievements in forestry research in China, the top Chinese forestry official said here Friday.
Zhou Shengxian, director of the State Forestry Administration, made the announcement at a seminar on the sustainable development of forestry in China.
He said that stronger efforts must be taken to develop the country's forestry, especially through scientific research, which calls for the establishment of an encouragement mechanism.
He urged scientists in the forestry sector to take further efforts to solve the major technical problems in the sector and to help map out a long-term program for forestry science.
