Response to plane crash incredible
A note of gratitude to the officers of the Long Beach Harbor Police, Cabrillo Beach lifeguard, Fire Department guys, paramedics, L.A. Harbor Police and all the other public agencies that came to my aid after I crash-landed my aircraft at Cabrillo Beach after a mid- air collision south of the Palos Verdes Peninsula last Saturday. Their professionalism, quick response and kind efforts were just outstanding!
Of particular note was the Long Beach Harbor policemen who arrived at the scene in their inflatable boat within seconds, (it seemed) of my crash. Without hesitation they leaped into the water in full uniform and raced to where I was hanging upside down in my open cockpit plane. The first officer there positioned himself to cushion my fall when I released my safety straps. He dragged me through the water clear of the aircraft. (I understand this was his first day on the job.) Two other Long Beach officers ran through the water behind the first, and they helped me to safety also.
At that point other public safety people began to arrive in force and took excellent care of me. I wish I could have taken names, but I was sinking into hypothermia and was soon on my way to the Little Company of Mary-San Pedro emergency room.
I just want to express my thanks to each person who had a part in aiding me in a very difficult situation. God bless you!
