Feb. 13–Twenty-five teachers in Palm Beach County are finalists in the William Dwyer Awards for Excellence in Education.

For the first time, a teacher from a private school, Sacred Heart School in Lake Worth, is a finalist. The competition was broadened last year to include private schools.

A panel of business and community leaders will interview the finalists on March 3; winners will be announced April 23 at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach. Each winner will receive $3,000 and the other finalists will get $500.

The Education Foundation of Palm Beach County and the Economic Council of Palm Beach County sponsor the awards, which are based on peer nominations and drew 190 nominees in this 23rd year. The annual recognition honors exemplary educators, who are chosen on the basis of creativity, high standards and community involvement.
