Carnegie Learning, Inc., a leading publisher of research-based math curricula for middle school and high school students, announced today that Michael Johnson, former President of Thomson Corporation's (NYSE:TOC) Science and Mathematics Division, has joined Carnegie Learning to lead development and sales of math curricula for the post-secondary market.
"We are very excited to welcome Michael Johnson as President of our new Higher Education Division," said Dennis Ciccone, Chief Executive Officer of Carnegie Learning, Inc. "Michael brings a depth of market knowledge, a career in mathematics publishing expertise, and the strong relationships that will enable us to move quickly in response to the growing needs of the higher education math market."
Mr. Johnson spent the last ten years with Thomson Corporation where he served as President of Thomson Science and Mathematics, Senior Vice President of Strategic Development in charge of Thomson's Higher Education Remediation Strategy, and Vice President & Editorial Director for the Thomson math and science imprint, Brooks/Cole. Before joining Thomson in 1996, Mr. Johnson was Senior Acquisitions Editor for Mathematics at McGraw-Hill and, earlier in his career, was a marketing manager and Acquisitions Editor of Mathematics at Harcourt Brace Jovanovich.
"It is commonly known in the educational community that math mean scores in the United States are among the lowest across developed countries," said Michael Johnson. "The demand for remedial education products that can deliver proven results and cost effective solutions for higher education institutions are in great demand and will grow significantly over the next few years. I believe Carnegie Learning's unique ability to structure and continuously refine individualized learning paths is a very attractive solution for ushering students through developmental math courses and into their core college courses."
