Breast Cancer Screening

source: Health Scout News

The earlier breast cancer is detected, the better. And while a mammogram is the best screening tool available, there are other procedures women should follow, according to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology:

-If you’re age 20-39:

* Have a clinical breast examination by a doctor at least every three years.

* Do a breast self-examination every month.

* Discuss mammography screening guidelines with your physician, especially if you have a family history of breast cancer.

-If you’re 40 or older:

* Have a mammogram every year.

* Have an annual clinical breast examination by a doctor, around the same time as your mammogram.

* Do a breast self-examination every month about seven days after your period begins, or at the same time each month.
