Baker's Charles M. Russell Honored As Engineer of the Year

PITTSBURGH, Feb. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Michael Baker Corporation announced today that Senior Vice President Charles M. Russell, Jr., P.E., has been named 2006 Engineer of the Year by the Engineers' Society of Western Pennsylvania (ESWP). The award, bestowed by the ESWP Awards Committee, is presented annually and based upon outstanding leadership, innovative guidance, and service to the engineering profession and society.

"Over the last few years, Chuck has been instrumental in organizing and leading Baker's charge in supporting the Army Corps of Engineers in the reconstruction of the infrastructure in Iraq," said Jeffrey Hill, vice president and Pittsburgh area manager. "He has also helped to advance and give recognition to the engineering profession as demonstrated by his participation as a member of the Visiting Committee at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Engineering, and through attaining the status of Fellow in both the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Society of American Military Engineers."

His experience includes the design and construction of new public works, commercial and industrial facilities, as well as the modernization and expansion of existing facilities. The more notable projects performed under his leadership include: design and construction of a 4,500-kilometer, fiber- optic telecommunications network for AT&T in Mexico; the design, permitting and construction of a 200-mile coalbed methane gathering system for OXY - CONOCO in Virginia, Kentucky, and West Virginia; and the design of the infrastructure for the midfield terminal at the Pittsburgh International Airport.
