Feb. 28–Two Triangle teens will receive $2,000 scholarships for their performance on science and math Advanced Placement exams.

Hae Rhee Chung of the N.C. School of Science and Math, and Arnave Tripathy of East Chapel Hill High have won the 2006-07 Siemens Awards for Advanced Placement.

Two students from each state — one male and one female — are chosen each year for earning the best scores on tests taken at the end of science and math Advanced Placement courses.

The awards are given by the Siemens Foundation, which promotes math and science education.

Other winners

The top teacher in the state was Jeffrey Killmer of Cary Academy, who won $1,000 for his support of AP courses in science and math.

The top high school was Junius H. Rose High School in Greenville, which will receive $1,000 to support math and science programs.

The courses

Perfect scores on at least three of these AP tests qualify students for the Siemens Awards: biology, calculus, chemistry, computer science, environmental science, electricity and magnetism, mechanics, and statistics.
