UTA Urged to Change Name of S.L. Hub
Salt Lake business leaders are asking the Utah Transit Authority to change the name of its main downtown station for trains and buses.
Instead of the Salt Lake Intermodal Hub, the Salt Lake Chamber and other groups are asking UTA to consider changing the name to “Salt Lake Central Station.”
The hub is located at 600 West between 200 South and 300 South. It is the central point where TRAX, commuter rail, UTA buses, Amtrak and Greyhound all converge in Salt Lake City.
The name of the hub “speaks to the centrality of the transportation network that converges at the intermodal hub,” chamber president Lane Beattie said in a letter to UTA. “It is also understandable to the layman and appropriately includes the name of our capital city.”
The chamber and other business groups began studying the name change as part of Downtown Rising, a project to invest and study changes to downtown Salt Lake City.
UTA spokesman Justin Jones said that his agency has received the chamber’s letter and is considering the request. “We look forward to their suggestions,” he said.
