Fishy Smell Source Remains a Mystery
Timaru residents were met with a distinctive fishy odour as they went about their business yesterday morning, but despite Environment Canterbury’s efforts the cause remains unknown.
Ecan environmental protection team leader Roger Gould said there were several calls made to the pollution hotline about the odour and staff members were dispatched to do the “sniff test”.
Senior environmental protection officer Kevin McFall said the local fish processors were the obvious parties, but after travelling around the North Mole he was unable to get to the bottom of it.
“There was a slight industrial odour in the area, but nothing significant.”
