Reaching Out to Mexico: Providing Rig Safety and Zero Spill Systems Training

Posted on: Wednesday, 14 March 2007, 12:00 CDT

EDMONTON, March 14 /PRNewswire/ -- In February, Katch Kan Limited welcomed four of Matyep's offshore Supervisors from Villahermosa and Ciudad del Carmen to participate in a one-week Rig Safety and Zero Spill systems training program in Edmonton, Alberta.

This particular program offered by Katch Kan Limited was customized to directly address the regional drilling and exploration challenges experienced in Mexico and included classroom components and field installation/analysis activities.

In total, 16 on-site professionals from Mexico have gone through the program since the two year partnership between Katch Kan Limited and Materiales y Equipo Petrolero S.A. de C.V. (Matyep); the company's exclusive distributor in Mexico.

The first group to take this training in August 2006 traveled out to a rig installation in Willow Creek (just outside Hinton, Alberta) to observe how the Zero Spill System(TM) applied and functioned in the oilfield.

Typically, the Rig Safety and Zero Spill systems training program balances practicality with theory by getting participants to take a hands-on approach; installing, removing and testing personnel safety and fluid containment equipment on a 20' simulated rig at the Katch Kan(TM) training facility. Afterward, participants are sent to a training rig in Nisku, Alberta where they go through the ins and outs of the Rig Safety and Zero Spill systems in operation.

Latin America Regional Manager for Katch Kan Limited emphasized, "Those who have taken the training have voiced their excitement because they see the potential for crew safety and environmental protection."

Katch Kan Limited continues to work with Matyep within the Villahermosa, Ciudad del Carmen, Reynosa and Veracruz regions of Mexico; optimizing their land and offshore operations with regards to improved rig safety and environmental protection/stewardship.
