Neumont University (www.neumont.edu), offering accelerated Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Master of Science in Computer Science and Master of Business Administration degrees, will host incoming freshmen and their families from 35 different states in an action-packed Geek Weekend Friday and Saturday, March 16th and 17th.

Neumont’s accepted freshmen applicants will arrive in Salt Lake City on Friday, March 16. Geek Weekend attendees will tour the campus, see the student housing, and learn dorm room feng shui, and discover the ins-and-outs of financial aid. They’ll compete with other students in an applications development contest, participate in a late-night LAN party and hear why Microsoft® is supporting the University’s innovative project-based curriculum.

Marguerite Cole, Microsoft’s Director of Sales Professional Planning (www.microsoft.com), will deliver a keynote address to the students and their families on Friday evening. Students will learn about the types of careers and salaries available to new graduates in Computer Science.

“Geek Weekend gives our incoming students a chance to visit campus before they start school, meet our current students and faculty, and to get to know the other freshmen. For many attendees, this will be their first trip to Utah. We want our new students to start school with confidence,” said Graham Doxey, President of Neumont University.

In addition to exploring the Neumont campus and meeting their future teachers, the incoming students will also get to have a little Neumont fun at Friday evening’s LAN party. The incoming students will join Neumont’s current students for a fun evening of networked computer gaming.

Neumont University’s mission is to educate the most sought-after software developers. The University works directly with leading technology employers to give students a solid foundation in computer science theory and experience at the practical aspects of software development. Graduates of the accelerated 24-month Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree program are averaging more than two offers per graduate, and landing jobs with average salaries over $60,000* per year. During an on-campus career fair, Jerry Dzuik, IBM University Relations reports, “I am highly impressed by how applicable the Neumont University students’ skill sets are to our hiring positions.”

While enrollment declines in college and university computer science programs across the country, Neumont University has grown by focusing on teaching skills difficult to send offshore. The school prepares in-demand computer science graduates with advanced technical and business skills that greatly reduce the on-the-job training now required for graduates from other programs. Some of the careers in software development include software engineer, systems architect, web development, systems analyst, data modeler, and programmer/analyst.

Geek Weekend events begin with an opening session on Friday, March 16 at 3:00 p.m., and end after an Admissions Fair on Saturday, March 17.
