Climate Crisis Action Day - March 20, 2007 - Thousands in Washington, DC From 45 States to Attend Largest U.S. Global Warming Event

WASHINGTON, March 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is being issued by the Alaska Wilderness League:
WHAT: TUESDAY, March 20: Thousands of Americans from 45 states will join Congressional and State leaders, Alaska Natives, conservation groups, and students on the West Front Lawn of the U.S. Capitol in the largest U.S. global warming day of action in history. It will also be the largest ever "carbon-neutral" advocacy event in the nation's capital(1). The Day of Action begins at 11:00 a.m. EDT, with speakers who will describe the impacts of global warming already evident in the U.S. They will urge prompt adoption of clean energy policies and a limit on global warming pollution to slow warming and protect threatened places such as the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. After the program, attendees will meet with their Senators and Representatives to urge swift passage of legislation to curb global warming and protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. (1) The electricity for the event, its staging, and the buses transporting people to/from Washington, DC will generate approximately 28 tons of carbon. The Alaska Wilderness League will buy "carbon offsets" from http://carbonfund.org/ that pay for "renewable energy credits" to defray some costs of new wind energy.
