Bond Set for Man Accused of Sexual Abuse
By Susanne Nadeau, Grand Forks Herald, N.D.
Mar. 24–Bond has been set to $25,000 cash for an Emerado, N.D., man charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child.
Scott Wheeler made his first appearance on the Class AA felony charge in Grand Forks District Court on Friday.
Faye Jasmer, an attorney with the Grand Forks State’s Attorney’s office, requested that bond be set at $50,000 cash.
Wheeler’s attorney, DeWayne Johnston, from Grand Forks, argued that the bond should be lowered to $5,000 because previous hearings have shown his client is no danger to the public.
Judge Harlan Dyrud set bond at $25,000 cash.
Wheeler is accused having sexual contact with a female child from the time she was 5-years-old until she was 7-years-old.
If bond is met, Dyrud ordered that Wheeler have no contact with the victim. The next hearing is scheduled for April 18.
Theft suspect
in court
A Grand Forks man facing numerous counts of theft, burglary and being in possession of stolen goods appeared in court Friday.
Kendall Feist, 25, waived about half the preliminary hearings on charges against him. He contested several more charges, one of which was dropped without prejudice because there wasn’t enough evidence to say he had been in possession of a stolen 2002 Polaris ATV, according to Judge Harlan Dyrud. When the ATV was tracked down, it was about a mile away from where Feist was staying.
Feist was arrested in December for being in possession of reported stolen goods, including stereo equipment that was taken from Sound Decision, an audio equipment store in Grand Forks, and several snowmobiles.
He faces numerous theft charges and others, including his girlfriend Brittany Metzger, also from Grand Forks, face similar charges.
Feist has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
